Escambia County Public Access Rules
Alabama public access starts with the public-records statute and court-record rules. For Escambia County Circuit and District Court files, the practical route is Alacourt ACCESS for online paid trial-court searches, division phones for routing, and the Circuit Clerk record request form for searches, copies, and certified copies. The clerk form says the office holds only Escambia County Circuit and District Court records, so municipal, federal, other-county, other-state, probate, and sheriff records must be requested elsewhere.
Key access rules: Ala. Code section 36-12-40 gives Alabama residents a right to inspect and copy public records unless an exception applies. Alabama Rule of Judicial Administration 30 addresses court file inspection, copies, and searches. The 2026 adult drug court map marks Escambia County as having one adult drug court, and separately marks Poarch Creek with one tribal adult drug court. The family and juvenile drug court map marks Escambia County as having one family drug court. Local Escambia court pages did not publish program eligibility, forms, judge assignments, or participant data, so program details should be verified through the Circuit Clerk or AOC.

Escambia County Sheriff Records
The Escambia County Sheriff's Office is separate from the Circuit Clerk. Sheriff Heath Jackson is listed on the official sheriff site. The main administrative office is at 316 Court Street in Brewton, with main office phone (251) 809-0741, Atmore office phone (251) 368-4779, and a crime tip line at (251) 809-2154. The sheriff website provides the current inmate roster, 48-hour release roster, sex offender links, crime tips, alerts, and app links.
The sheriff jail page says the jail holds people charged and awaiting trial, people arrested on warrants, people serving jail sentences, parole or probation holds, people awaiting state prison or community-corrections beds, municipal court sentenced inmates, and people held for other agencies. The inmate roster is a custody record, not the final criminal case file. The roster can show booking charges and bond, but the profile warns that charges and bail may change after court appearances. Escambia County Probate Records
Marriage, divorce, and probate records split across Probate Court, Circuit Court, ADPH, and the Probate Office's online records system. Alabama no longer uses a traditional county-issued marriage license application. Parties complete a marriage certificate, have it notarized by an Alabama notary, and record it with an Alabama probate court within 30 calendar days. Divorce files are Circuit Court domestic relations records, while ADPH provides divorce certificates from 1950 forward. Escambia County Traffic Records
State and county traffic tickets use the Alabama Traffic Service Center. The Escambia traffic page says to allow up to ten business days for a citation to enter the court system. Some tickets can be paid before court by guilty plea and payment of the preset fine and costs. Serious charges require a court appearance. A person who wants driving school should not pay first, because driving school requests go through Online Traffic Resolution and require court approval.
Municipal traffic tickets can be different. Atmore, Brewton, East Brewton, and Flomaton each have municipal court channels. Atmore, Brewton, and Flomaton have online payment portals. East Brewton publishes a city court schedule and phone contact. Missing a required traffic deadline can lead to added charges, an arrest warrant, and driver's license suspension.
Escambia County Court History
Escambia County was created on December 10, 1868 from parts of Baldwin and Conecuh Counties. Pollard was first designated as the seat of justice, and the county seat moved to Brewton in 1883. The county history page says the first courthouse was built in 1901 and the current courthouse was built in 1960.
